How It All Began...
Who doesn’t love a chip?
I’m fairly certain that if someone at your table orders a portion and you don’t, you’ll be quietly eyeing them up — and probably nicking one from the edge of the plate when no one’s looking.
That humble chip is where all this began.
One Saturday afternoon, Mark — my other half — and I popped out for a coffee that somehow turned into lunch. I ordered a hog roast barm (and yes, after more than twenty years in Devon I still use my Cheshire dialect!) with a side of chips. Mark, naturally, had food envy.
I won’t forget that meal in a hurry. It was one of those simple, ordinary lunches that turns out to be anything but. While trying to get my chops round this enormous barm, I reached for a chip — and honestly, it stopped me in my tracks.
“Oh my word,” I said to Mark. “That’s the best chip I’ve ever had.”
He thought I was just being dramatic (I do have form), but then he tried one… and said exactly the same thing. We still don’t know if they were cooked in beef dripping, but we knew they were different.
And it took me right back to my Pop. He always had a pan of lard on the go for frying — nothing fancy, just proper food done properly. That first bite felt like a little echo of those meals.
That was the moment a seed was planted.
I realised that what made those chips so good wasn’t something clever or modern — it was something old-fashioned. Real fat, from real animals, raised properly. And I started to think about how much of that goodness we’ve been taught to throw away.
So I began with fat — and from there, it grew into something bigger. Using the whole animal. Honouring the work of farmers. Sourcing by-products that have been turned into things that are useful, beautiful and lasting.
Today, this little business sells fats, skins, skincare and other animal by-products, all sourced from farms that care for their land and their animals. Not because it’s trendy — but because it feels right.
If an animal is raised for food, the least we can do is make sure nothing is wasted.
And if along the way a few more people fall back in love with proper food and honest materials… well, I think that’s a very good thing.
Meet The Founder
I’m Caroline, a Cheshire girl living in Devon, still calling a bread roll a barm and still believing that good food should be simple, honest and made with care.
This little business began with something as ordinary as a chip. One lunch out, one unforgettable bite, and a memory of my Pop’s old pan of lard on the stove — the kind of cooking that fills a room with warmth and makes food taste the way it should.
That moment led me to think about how much we’ve forgotten. About proper fats. About using the whole animal. About supporting farmers who care for their land.
Today, I work with British regenerative farms to turn animal by-products — fats, skins and leathers — into things for the kitchen and the home. Not because it’s fashionable, but because it feels right.
It’s a small, quiet way of honouring animals, backing farmers, and helping nothing go to waste.
